Children's Medicine Not Safe?

Hmm! Now they tell parents that children's medicine is not safe for children 2 and under, and maybe even as old as 6 years old. Now they tell us. Well, duh! Many parents have had concerns about the many cold medicines marketed to us and our children with these tantalizing flavors of bubblegum, grape and cherry for years.

Being a parent of 5 children I have learned so much about taking care of sick children. Like feeding a cold, giving a child a nice warm bath for aches and pains, massages for aches, letting a low grade fever run its course(fever is good for the body) and that nice warm bath also helps bring down fevers. Like I said, I have 5 children and I have found these things work for us when our children have a cold. I don't try to get rid of their symptoms immediately;however, I allow the cold to run its course.I truly believe that way toooo many parents and doctors give these medicines for convenience and they want a quick solution to the problem.

As a person who is really passionate about the many different vaccines that are given to our kids, this cold medicine issue really pisses me off. Because for years there have been a group of parents out there who have believed that these meds could pose a danger to children, but pediatrician would make their morning talk show rounds telling parents that cold meds are absolutely safe for children and there should be no concern. Well, I wonder how long will it be when "they" tell us,oops, some of those vaccines that we said were so safe.....well, they might not be so safe after all. Come on people wake up! Just because doctors have letters behind their names doesn't mean they know everything. We go to doctors because they have more knowledge on how the human body functions and works than we do. They advise on treatment options and connect us with other health care practitioners. It is our job to know our bodies and to be heard when you have a concern(that doesn't mean the doctor has to agree with you). So, when parents go to the pediatrician's office for routine vaccinations I truly believe that if that parent doesn't want to vaccinate then they should be heard, and if a parent wants the Polio vaccine, but wants to wait on the others then that's what should happen. I personally had my first two children vaccinated on time but decided to wait with my other three children and pick and choose which ones I wanted and didn't want. I'm still very leery about the chicken pox vaccine, and MMR and that HPV vaccine.

Food Recalls, cold medicine taken off of shelves, lead in children's toys, what's next? Is the FDA doing their job or not? How do you feel about all of this? Will you stop giving your child cold meds or continue?
Do you vaccinate your child or not?

At the bottom of my blog are some video es on vaccinations. Please go and check it out!

Working from home

I really want to get my home business off the ground, but as I get older I fear starting my business. For some strange reason I feel less confident business wise but have a great sense of myself as I'm getting older. I know it doesn't make much sense but that's how I feel deep down inside. Does anyone feel the same?

Tonight is the Night

Heroes is baaaaack! This is the one show that've been waiting for all summer. I've got to say NBC 's probably going to be the network for me this fall. I can't wait for Bionic Woman and that show Journey Man really looks good too.

Even though NBC let my soap Passions go, I'll still stick around because Heroes is such an awesome show. Not to say Passions wasn't good to me(a bit strange),I have to say it was a guilty pleasure for me. I've always been an All My Children and One Life Two Live fan,but there was just something about that quirky Passions. Well, anyway I just can't wait until tonight for the New Season of Heroes. What show have you been waiting for this season? What show is a guilty pleasure for you?

Ladybug is Loving Kindergarten

Almost 2 months into the school year, and Ladybug is truly enjoying her time in "the Garden." She was very emotional the first two weeks of school. She wanted to stay home with me;as a matter of fact, she didn't even want to go to school until she was ten. Can you believe that? I truly think that's pretty funny.

I always knew she would come around.I mean what's not to love about school at that age. However, I was starting to get concerned about Ladybug being so emotional at school in the beginning because her older sister,Rock Girl(who is in 6th grade) hated kindergarten when she first went because it was "Boring." My other two school aged children (Brother and Pootie)enjoyed school! I guess Rock Girl's expectations were pretty high about kindergarten and was tremendously let down by what she was learning when she got to"the garden." So, when Ladybug was very emotional about school,I was starting to get a little concerned because it was Deja vu all over again. I know it takes sometime to adjust to school for kids but for me I was concerned because Rock Girl has never liked school since she started six years ago. She's always been an honor roll student, who can be very lazy at times, loves science and art,if it was for science or art classes she would probably fake being sick all the time. Well, like I was saying about Ladybug,I was concerned at first but knew she would gradually become comfortable. Especially after going to specials, Ladybug loves art and music. After experiencing those two classes I knew she would love "the garden." She comes home everyday with a new drawing of me(my age is always on every picture of me too)her siblings, our house, friends and nature. But what I love more than anything is to see her face when she talks about music class and hearing her talk about pitch, that cracks me up.

My ladybug is having a great time in the Garden! Wooooooohooooo!

The Emmys

What did you think of the Emmys?

I was doing a lot of channel flipping, but I thought it was very entertaining. The Kanye West thing was pretty funny. You know what? I have to give it to Kanye West,he doesn't mind making fun of himself. He's still a cry baby though.

I also enjoyed anything with Steve Carrell,John Stewart and Colbert. Those guys are CRAZZZZZZY!

The cast of Roots was another one of my favorites, such a great powerful story.....words can't even describe how beautiful that story is. I read ROOTS years ago and it made me feel even closer to my American heritage and African heritage. Thanks, Mr. Haley for sharing your story......one of the greatest American stories ever told.

Middle School Can Be Cruel

Tonight I sit here crying because I just learned my 11 year old daughter, is struggling in Middle School. It's not academics that she is struggling with,it's the adjustment to middle school...Two weeks ago she came home so excited that she finally memorized her class schedule and I thought she was adjusting to middle school life quite fine, but now I know she was just pretending for me and her dad.

See,like I said, its not the academics so much, its just that she can be very forget full at times. She always does her homework, but forgets it in her locker. She came home one day, sad because she got a zero on her homework because of that. I told her she has to be more responsible and if she wants credit for something that she has done then turn it in on time, and she can't forget things so important. I also said these are learning moments for you and that she'll get the hang of middle school pretty soon. It will take time but she'll get the hang of it.

My daughter is a very bright kid, she's been on Honor Roll and Principal's Honor Roll every since kindergarten and has always been a very outgoing person, always helped out with her siblings and since school has started (a month now)she has been pretty angry with them. I mean she has been real snappy with them and she seems to have lost interest in a lot of things she loved just a month ago. At the beginning of the school year, I always wanted to know if she made any new friends since she had NO classes with any of her old friends.....the answer was always Not yet mom!

Just recently I found out that in her Social Studies class there's this group of girls who always tell her to move because they want some other girl to sit there. My daughter told them,NO! But she also told me that a lot of those kids don't want to be her friend because she doesn't watch BET or MTV and some really crazy shows that I don't think kids should be watching.

My kid is 11 years old and she truly acts like an 11 year old girl. She still loves Cartoon Network, playing outside, collecting rocks, coloring and listening to bedtime stories. In fact, she is one of the greatest kids I know and Love!

Do You Love or Hate Back To School Time?

I personally I love being around my kids(they do drive me crazy at times),so this time of the year is really hard for me. I get really sad that they'll be gone all day,I hate that I have to work around the school's schedule. I don't know how many people feel like this, but I just thought I would bring it up. Oh,Yeah I hate getting up at 6 a.m. What are your feelings about this time of year?

Hope Everyone Is Enjoying Their Holiday...I Sure AM!

I'm Back Once Again

That's right,I'm back....You're probably saying who cares....I Do! It's been a long hiatus for me.My last post on the blog was May 26th I believe, and so much has happened since then.My family and I just moved into another house at the end of June, so I'm still recuperating from that, helping my sister deal with the "Baby Kidnappers" AKA DFACS(child protective services),and again packing and unpacking, and just trying to enjoy my summer. Well, once again I'm glad I'm back to blogging and I have so much to say.

Babysitting Ms. Thang

Here it is 8 p.m. Saturday evening and I've finally found time to blog. You just don't know how much I have missed blogging about nothing at times, and at times, blogging about serious issues.
I don't have any readers yet,but I'm working on it. Man,oh man, have I been working. As you already know,I'm the mother of 5 children and just recently I have started babysitting 3 other children(ages 9,7,&4). I have always wanted to have a daycare business for 11 years now. So, anyway, 3 weeks ago this couple comes upto my front door wanting to know if this was a daycare because 4 of my kids and 3 of my neighbors kids were sitting on my front porch. In my mind,I thought that was hilarous because if you really think about it,how many people actually have 7 kids sitting on their front porch/yard these days. Well, anyway I told them that I've always wanted to have an in home daycare, but my husband was never to fond of the idea. Well, to make a long story short, I've been watching their children, they have been timely on payments, but their 7 year old daughter has some serious issues. Let's see, first off she has major issues with me putting her 4 year old brother in time out. Everytime her little brother hit, spit, threw a toy or did anything bad,she always went behind my back and got him out of time out,or handed him a toy. This was really driving me crazy,so I explained to her that she is not helping her brother at all by doing this. She is only hurting him in the long run. He will only grow up thinking that he can always get what he wants in the world by any means necessary. I hate to say this, but I believe if he had to kill for it he would. Oh! my blood is just boilling thinking about this whole incident. Well, back to the story, the little girl kept getting louder and louder about she wants to call her mother because she couldn't take all of THIS NOISE in the house, and I couldn't handle her little brother. Yeah, there was a lot of Noise in my house, only because you were the loudest person in my house, little girl. I had to tell that little girl, she wasn't running anything up in here...this is my house and you will be following the rules. It's funny that your little brother does fine during the day while you're at school, but when you get here,it's another story. That night(my hrs for sitting are 12:45 p.m.-10:45 p.m. somedays till 11:45 when they work overtime) when their parents came to pick them up,I went straight outside and spoke to her mother about the incident and this little girl had the nerve to say,"she didn't do that." Her mother didn't believe her though and I was glad because we have to many parents out there who believe, not my Kid,my kid doesn't do that,my kid said, she didn't do it. I honestly hope this is the last incident with this little girl, but I have this strange feeling that its not.

Good Monday Toooooo You

Hello to everyone! I hope you had an awesome weekend;I had a pretty decent weekend. Saturday my 6 yr old daughter,Pootie had a 102.5 fever and sore throat. So, of course it becomes very tiring on the body trying to take care of someone who is sick and four other children who need and want your undivided attention right then and there. But we made it through Saturday just fine. In fact, I had a wonderful time with Poot,we laid in the bed and watched one of the Bratz movies,Hoodwinked(a must see,1 of my kids fav)and I read countless books to her,and of course,we ate in bed.
She kept telling me she didn't want to eat,but I told her eat something(you have to feed a cold)and I made sure she took a nice warm bath to bring that fever down. As the day went on she felt so much better, especially after taking her bath. She told me she was well enough to go see Spider-Man 3. I just laughed and said,"we'll probably go tomorrow." And the next day,we went to see Spider-Man 3 and it was Great!

My husband saw the movie at 12:00 a.m. on Friday and he was very disappointed in the movie. He gave it a C- because he felt like the writers focused toooo much on the story(trying to make it like Titantic)and not enough on the villians in the movie(which means,to me not enough action). Has anyone out there seen Spider-Man 3 yet,and if so,what did you think? Did you take your kids and how much did it cost for your family(it cost our family $70)for tickets, and popcorn and drinks.

-Blessings to you-

Mother of five little Spiderman fans!

Swinging On Trees

Today was a fun filled day for me and my 4yr old daughter,Ladybug and my 2yr old son,lil Spidey. We spent a lot of time outside just enjoying nature.

We enjoyed....
watching ants
watering our garden
riding our scooters
counting and sorting rocks by size
sitting on the porch enjoying a glass of water
playing freeze tag
burying our feet in the sand(pure coolness)
swinging on a tree branch(delightful)

Today was a good day for me,Ladybug and Spidey. How bout you?

I love Idol and VFTW

Okay,I admit that I have been in loved with the website for 2 years now. When I first heard about this concept,I thought how mean and cruel, but at the same time its kind of funny. Let's face it,if you make it to the top 12,well, actually the top 10 then you are pretty much set. These contestants will probably be releasing an album together and we surely know there will be the tour. Vote for the worst has made the show to me more exciting because their audience actually votes for the "worst",and this brings so much excitement and entertainment to the show. Geez, Sanjaya made Idol really really entertaining this year. You never knew what he was going to do next, from how he styled his hair, song choice,or what was going to come out of his mouth. Honestly, I kinda miss Sanjaya, but I didn't want him to win the competition, but if he did that would've been the funniest thing ever. Now, what am I going to do;there is no one left that struggles from time to time....Well, Jordin did struggle with Rock Night, but I don't think that girl is going anywhere. She's amazing and she's only 17 years old. Yeah, I know there have been other 16 and 17 year olds on the show, but none of them can compare to Jordin's vocal range, strength, and presence. She seems so mature for her age;she's an old soul,I guess. I truly believe the next American Idol will be Jordin Sparks or Melinda Doolittle. Blake and Lakisha are great too,but I don't think they'll be winning Idol. Lakisha a great soul singer(but has struggled a few times)and Blake is very creative and knows how to make a song his own. These two might not win,but will be very successful. Who do you think will be the next American Idol?

The other day I finally recieved my Warm Spirit catalog and I can hardly contain myself. I know! I know! I have no life,I'm getting excited about a catalog. Well, anyway, I was just flipping through the catalog and could not believe the array of products they offer.....there's the essentials(face creams, body lotions & shampoos). But they also sell pillows, candles, and even homeopathic remedies and so much more....I think they have a customer for life. Oh,I think I want some of that Heavenly Body Butter to moisturize my skin......sounds delicious too.....and it even has a little bit of chocolate in it...Oh my god, I will be delicious! Have any of you been truly excited about getting a catalog and what was it?

VA TECH

My prayers go out to everyone in Blacksburg,VA. This is a complete tragedy and I can't even began to fathom any of the students, faculty and parents emotions. Again, I just want to send out my prayers to everyone. All of America is with you at this time. I can't even continue, its just so sad, that anyone would terrorize a whole community, and I guess a nation in a sense.

-peace and blessings to everyone-

We could have hidden the eggs in the house, but we decided to splurge(we're a $1 movie family usually),and take our kids to the movies(we spent $70). We saw Meet The Robinsons, which was a great movie! The graphics were great, the story was beautiful, this movie was off the chain!!!! Then we took the kids out to eat to celebrate Easter and to celebrate our 3 school aged children being on the Honor Roll. A great time was had by all. I hope your family had a wonderful Easter.

To Vaccinate or Not

When I had my first child ten years ago,the question of vaccinating wasn't even a question. As soon as my daughter was 2 months old she recieved here first shots, and the same went for her baby brother when he came along. As a young new parent back then,I couldn't even fathom the concept of not vaccinating my child. To me,parents who chose not to vaccinate or even partial vaccinations, were uneducated, irresponsible, quackish, conspiracy theorist parents.

Growing up as a child,my father always taught me to be proactive about my health. He was always into herbs and became very concious about his eating habits. At one time,he became a vegetarian. My mother on the other hand, didn't quite believe in a lot of my father's beliefs. She was more into conventional "medicine". Here I was, a young kid with two different perspectives in front of me;which one do I chose? I decided to choose my mother's view, even though,I was secretly fascinated with my dad's alternative views(many of them worked),it wasn't mainstream,so I couldn't possibly think alternative medicine really works.

As my family continued to grow,I became increasingly aware of what we were putting into and on our bodies(thanks dad,for a different perspective).I ate more organically,we stop drinking Kool-Aid(Oh No!),drank more water, ate less red meat and had atleast one vegetarian meal a week. This is when my husband and I came to the conclusion that after the birth of our third child,we would hold off on vaccinating until our child was 6 months old because of adverse side effects. So, when the time finally came to vaccinate,I took her to our local clinic(we were in between pediatricans),and heard a mouthful. The nurse noticed that at 6mos of age my little daughter was recieving her first vaccinations. She was highly upset with me,she asked,"Why did you wait so long?" So, I told her how my husband and I felt about the side effects and the maltiude of vaccines now. And of course, she felt we were irresponsible and uneducated parents. She went on this complete diatrabe about putting our child and other children at risk because my 6 month old was getting vaccinated so late (what the MMR vaccine only works if you get vaccinated only at 2 months).Man, I felt like snatching my baby up and leaving. But I decided to stay,an answered back....."What about autism and these vaccines? What about mercury in these vaccines? Of course, I was told by the nurse that there is no connection with vaccination and autism. HMMMM! Tell that to countless other families that I have met personally and read about. Oh yeah, lets not forget, that "ONLY" a small amount of mercury is in these vaccines.......Oh! Thanks,Doc for injecting "ONLY" a small amount of poison into my babies body,I feel so much better to know its only a small amount......Gimme a break!

Every medical professional always tell parents to get the facts and become informed, but do they really want us to become informed? Maybe, Maybe not. Do you think we are informed? I just don't know what to think. Don't get me wrong I am not pro or con on vaccinations,I'm for choice. Personally, I understand the need for some vaccines(Polio,I get),but a vaccine for the chickenpox, come on! Yes, about 100 people die each year from complications, but is it an epidemic,I think not! In my humble opinon this new mandatory HPV vaccine needs to be looked at seriously. HPV is an STD,so we need to look at other issues(food, hygenie, and sexual responsibility) with that. What do you think?

Get informed!Be proactive!
How many injections are we willing to give our children?

Peace

Let's try this again!!!!

Well, here I am again.....I'm going to give this blogging thing one more try. Let's see, about 2 months ago I thought it would be fun to start blogging, and I was right. I just didn't have any idea how much time goes into making a nice blog....not that it is hard, but its that deadline mentality I have and I just couldn't keep up.

See, I am a mother of 5 wild, amazing kids (ages 10,8,6,4&2).Granted my three oldest are in school during the day;however,I do homeschool my younger two which takes up a lot of my time, but it is so rewarding. Then there is just the fact that I just love being with my kids.......I love cooking with my kids, I enjoy helping them solve problems (be it school related or chore related),and I just LOOOOVVVVE playing with them....be it video games or just playing outside.

Well,I have to get out of here because my 6 yo is hovering of my shoulder and wants to go rollerblading....So, all I can say is, I hope I can create and interesting and fun blog for all to enjoy!

-Peace-
